Kamiti Call Center expose’ by Citizen tv’s Lulu Hassan reveals how Kenyans are losing cash to fraudsters

An expose on Citizen television by journalist Lulu Hassan has sparked anger among Kenyans who have called upon the Communications Authority to jam signals around Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

The expose centered on convicts who continue to fleece Kenyans even when they are in jail. Undated video footage showed prisoners in Cell A colluding with warders who provide them with phones and protection to carry out scams from which Kenyans lose devastating amounts daily.

An insider revealed how the scammers celebrated following fleecing an unsuspecting Kenyan of KES 4 million ostensibly for the purchase of an inexistent car.

Pressed by the high cost of living many Kenyans are susceptible to fraud.

The informer also revealed how night-duty warders would be bribed with as little as KES 2,000 to take home phones and drugs for concealment only to bring them back safe and ready for another round of operations the following day.

This time round Kenyans who are grappling with the high cost of living and fuel shortages would not want to hear the long tale about warders’ remuneration being poor as an excuse. The evidence is sufficient to get the heads rolling. Certainly, individual warders cannot run such intricate operations inside a maximum security facility without the knowledge of their superiors.

Jamming or restricting GSM signals around Kamiti could freeze, once and for all, the criminal operations.

Many gullible Kenyans have fallen victim to the fraud operations of Kamiti and this expose is a timely reminder that the authorities should now act to curb the menace.
