A tragic incident has shaken the National Intelligence Service (NIS) as a senior official reportedly took his own life at his residence in Kilimani. The official, identified as Tom Mboya Adala, 54, was an Assistant Director at the NIS Headquarters in Ruaraka.
The news of Adala’s death was brought to light by his nephew, Francis Oduor, who discovered his uncle’s lifeless body in the servant quarters of their home in Kirichwa Villas. The scene was described as haunting, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to Adala’s head leaving a devastating impact.
The discovery of Adala’s body came after a series of events that raised concerns among his family. Oduor, who last saw his uncle the night before, became alarmed when Adala failed to appear for breakfast the next morning. A thorough search of the premises led to the heartbreaking discovery.
The Kilimani Police Station was immediately notified, and a team of officers, along with senior NIS officials, swiftly responded to the scene. The recovery of a Glock 19 pistol, a suicide note in a black notebook, and additional ammunition painted a grim picture of the tragedy that had unfolded.
The loss of a respected member of the NIS has left a void in the organization, as colleagues and loved ones grapple with the shocking news. The circumstances surrounding Adala’s death have sparked an investigation, shedding light on the complexities of mental health and the toll it can take on even the most dedicated individuals.
It has been revealed that Adala had been battling depression for quite some time, a struggle that may have ultimately led to his tragic decision.
One of the contributing factors to his depression was the ongoing divorce proceedings with his estranged wife, a situation that weighed heavily on his mind.
In his heartbreaking suicide note, the NIS officer left instructions for his children, urging them to visit his grave regularly despite living with their mother.
He made it clear that no one should be held responsible for his actions, a poignant reminder of the internal battles he was facing.
Colleagues of Adala also noted that his recent transfer to the Counter-Extremism Violence Unit may have exacerbated his mental health struggles. His increased absenteeism and discussions of resignation were red flags that were unfortunately overlooked.
The police have launched an inquest into the case, treating it as a Priority Unsolved Investigation (PUI) in order to uncover the truth behind Adala’s tragic end.
The scene of the incident has been meticulously processed by crime scene personnel, and Adala’s body has been taken to Lee Funeral Home. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work tirelessly to unravel the details surrounding this heartbreaking event.
