Pros and Cons of Terrazzo

Terrazzo is a flooring material traditionally made by exposing marble chips on the surface of concrete and then polishing until smooth. Now, however, you can buy terrazzo in tile form. It’s often used in public buildings because it’s long-lasting and can be refinished repeatedly.

Terrazzo is quite slippery and can cause a nasty fall. For this reason it may not be a good choice for families with young children or elderly members. However there’s a possibility of applying non-slip additives to the surface.

Best Uses: Flooring, walls, countertops, backsplashes
Pros: Unique beauty, elegance, longevity
Cons: Expensive, slippery can cause falls
Installation Cost: Appx Ksh 1,500 per square foot (including labour and materials)
