Utawala man shot 36 time, girlfriend kidnapped

A man was shot dead 36 times in a puzzling attack in Mihango, Utawala, Nairobi.

Police identified him as Kevin Otieno Oyimba from Busia county.

An unknown number of gunmen aboard two vehicles cornered the man on Gesora Road and rained bullets on him, killing him on the spot.

Witnesses told the police the incident happened at 1pm on Friday.

During the incident, a female companion who was with the man escaped unharmed. She was found traumatised and abandoned in Tassia.

Witnesses said the gunmen had bundled the woman into one of their two vehicles and sped off with her.

Police arrived at the scene minutes later and found the victim’s bullet-riddled body near a building under construction on Gesora Road.

“It seems the two were lured there before the shooting happened,” a police officer said.

Other officers said Oyimba had a dark past. “Someone may have taken advantage of his past, but we don’t if it is the reason. He had a dark said,” an officer said.

An examination on the body at the scene confirmed it had multiple gunshot wounds.

Police recovered 36 spent cartridges, one live ammunition and five bullet heads.

Nairobi police boss James Mugera said they were yet to know the motive and those behind the attack.

The victim’s body was taken to City Mortuary as investigations commenced. The missing woman is yet to be identified.
