Prince William has defended the monarchy saying that Britain’s royals were not racist. this is after Meghan, wife of his younger brother Prince Harry, said a member of the family was concerned how dark their son Archie’s skin might be even before he was born.
Meghan made the statement during an explosive t interview that she and Harry gave to Oprah Winfrey plunging the British monarchy into its biggest public crisis since Princess Diana – William and Harry’s mum.
During a visit to a school in east London, William said he had not talked to his brother since the interview.
“I haven’t spoken to Harry yet but I will,” William.
Asked if the royal family was racist, William said: “We’re very much not a racist family.”
In the interview, Meghan said staff and members the royal family ignored her pleas for help. She says she had felt suicidal. Harry said hat his father, Prince Charles, had let him down. He explained that he had felt trapped in the royal circus.
On Tuesday, Buckingham Palace issued a statement that was read on behalf of 94-year-old Queen Elizabeth who is also Harry’s grandmother. She said the family was saddened by how challenging the couple had found the last few years in the royal palace.
The couple’s accusation that one of the royal members had made a racist comment has dominated coverage. This allegation has the potential to cause lasting damage to the 1,000-year-old monarchy.
