Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho mourns Winnie Achieng whose car plunged into the Indian Ocean

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has sent a message of condolence to the family of Winnie Achieng’, who died after her car plunged into the Indian Ocean on Wednesday morning.

Ms Achieng’s car plunged into the Indian Ocean after hitting a pavement on the Makupa Causeway.

Governor Joho urged motorists to drive carefully during this festive season.

“It is indeed a painful ordeal to lose a loved one in this manner. I urge all road users to strictly adhere to the traffic rules and exercise extreme caution while driving during this festive season,” said Mr Joho.

Last year on September 29, Ms Mariam Kighenda and her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu died in a similar manner at the Likoni Channel.

During the incident, Ms Achieng’, 33, was in the car with her son who narrowly escaped death after swimming to safety.

The boy, who swam for about 30 metres before he was rescued by locals, sustained minor injuries. He was treated at Coast General Hospital and discharged.
