Why Rongai has endless traffic jams, they could be staged

Ongata Rongai bus operators are the reason the narrow road is prone to traffic jam.

Bus operators in the area reportedly hire boda bodas riders to update them on the whereabouts of traffic cops and when it’s ‘safe’ to overlap.

The boda boda operators are paid Sh100 for every update, a fact which was revealed during a recent meeting on how best to deal with the endless jams after Saccos failed to control the matatus. At the meeting, the Kajiado Governor, said: “The government should now come in and ensure there is order in Rongai.”

Traffic officers were not spared after it emerged that some of them employed tricks like pretending to be on phone to evade arresting motorists well known to them.

Henry Gakura, the director of the Kenya National Highway Authority promised to construct new stages at Maasai Lodge, Business Park, Gataka junction and Kobil in the coming weeks’ time to help control traffic.
